Touring Albania

Albania lies in the southern part of the European continent and offers you one of the finest aspects of Europe’s culture, history and heritage. Albania opened itself to the outside world quite recently and has seen very little economic development. This leads us with many opportunities to explore and see the true culture that has not been greatly influenced by the changes of westernization. Some of the tourist attractions in Albania are listed below

Tirana: Tirana is the capital city of Albania. The city was founded by one of the feudal lords and is admired by many tourists for its lively night life that it offers. The Albanian locals are hospitable and mostly friendly in nature. Most of the average citizens in Tirana speak mild English solving your worries and concerns over the communication issues instantaneously.

You can reach Tirana through the Mother Teresa Airport. There are plenty of low cost flights from UK to the Mother Teresa Airport. International bus and train routes to the city are limited. You can visit places like Skanderbeg Square, Bulevardi Deshmoret e Kombit, National Art Gallery, etc.

Berat: The town of Berat was declared as a World heritage site by the UNESCO for the well preserved Ottoman architecture. It has long been known as the “city of 1000 windows” and has a well preserved castle called the Kala with residents still living inside its walls. Osumi River is the most beautiful river in Albania and lies quite near by. In the Osumi River you have the option of rafting through the canyons.

Sarandë: Sarande is one of the most attractive tourist towns in Albania. Many honeymooners traditionally spend their holidays in Sarnade. You can reach Sarande by ferry boats from the Greek island Corfu. The village of Ksamili is near Sarande and has a very beautiful beach and nearby islands you could swim to.

Butrint: Butrint is near Sarande and boasts of having the second largest Roman amphitheater, a Byzantine Basilica. It is next to the one in Istanbul. The place was recently announced as one of the World heritage sites by the UNESCO organization because of its unique Ottoman architecture.

Shkodra: Shkodra is one of the biggest towns in the northern part of Albania. Rofaza Castle is one of the major attractions in Shkodra. The castle provides us with some amazing views from its highest points and is fun to explore.

Some of the travel tips that can be of little help while touring Albania are

• Respect the locals and do not offend them by discussing topics they are not interested like politics.
• Women are expected to dress in modesty hence do not try to offend.

Follow the above travel tips and have great fun in your tour at Albania. Enjoy trip and carry back the fond memories of your trip to Albania.
